Delivery and Style Prompt #4

By: Dalin C.

In these two sources, the authors talk about the reasons they became a surgeon, and when they decided to become a surgeon. "When Surgeon Decide to Become Surgeons: New Opportunities for Surgical Education" is a scholarly article, and "Tis the Season to Celebrate Compassion: The Reason we Became Surgeons" is a trade article with different methods of style and deliveries.

The style and delivery of the two sources are completely different. To start, one is a trade article and the other is a scholarly article. A trade article is usually an article that is written by a professional in that field. A scholarly article is a article or journal entry that is written by a professional in their field and they normally contain research. This specific trade article is posted in "Orthopedics Today", which has many different posts about the orthopedic field. The scholarly article is posted online, but it has an abstract, research, results, comments, and it is the only post. The trade article also has ads on the sides of the page, while the scholarly article is just words.

So the question is, which source can we trust? The answer is both. Both of these articles provide information on the subject, however one provides physical research. The trade article has more of an opinion, while the scholarly article shows information. These two articles are both reliable, however they just have a different purpose, style, delivery, and audience.
