One of the major controversy in the medical field to day is over medical marijuana, this debate over whether it should be legal or not. While there are many people that stand on both sides of the fence on this issue, it is hard to make a clear decision. Both sides have points that can be argued, for the legalization side it is majorly about using marijuana to help sick patients. Marijuana has been proven that it can help cancer patients and other patients with serious health concerns, which may be a more beneficial that prescription drugs that cause too many deaths every year. There have been no overdoses or deaths that are a result of marijuana intake to date that have been recorded. Colorado was the first state to allow marijuana use legally, "On New Year’s Day, the first legal marijuana dispensaries officially opened in Colorado. In the months that followed, people held the state under a microscope, probing and prodding to see how the model was faring and coming to broad conclusions about weed’s medicinal properties"(Weller, para.2)
For the "keep marijuana illegal" side of the argument, the main argument is that population should not be allowed to use marijuana recreationally and that if it is made legal, it will have detrimental effects on society. The common image of a "stoner" is a person sitting on a couch eating snack foods being unproductive, this may be pretty accurate to an extant. However, is it better for people to overdose on prescriptions than be a couch potato? The pharmaceutical companies play a very large role in lobbyism which may be something that is keeping marijuana illegal and keeping the abundance of pills high.
You must really think about what you believe is rite and make your own decision!
